The prototypes for these models came from
a book I have called Before Guilford by Preston Cook which details approximately
the last 10 years of The Delaware & Hudson,
Boston & Maine, and Maine Central Railroads.
The book deals mostly with the motive power
of the lines but there are a few other shots
of equipment as well including cabooses.
I have used the same Microscale O-Gauge Decals for this model as I did for
my GP40. While the numbering is that of a GP9 I
have come to the conclusion that trying to
model an exact prototype engine in LEGO is
futile. So this is really just a High Nose
GP with my prototypes being mostly GP7 and
GP9's.
One bit of "artistic license" I
took with this model are the white running
boards. The prototype had black running boards
but I wanted it to match my GP40 more closely and my book said the Black
running boards were introduced to save on
the expense of cleaning the white ones. These
prototypes come from the waining days of
the B&M and therefore any cost cutting
measure was considered a good thing.
